I promised my daily painting subscribers the story behind this one.
Sean and I walk into a restaurant....Gorgeous interior, beyond delicious food and a marble bar decorated with an assorment of brass animal figurines? First time I've ever seen an assortment of animals lining the bar. Totally up my alley. Of course I took a photo and then decided yesterday that I had to create a painting from the randomness of it all.
When I showed Sean the initial sketch, I said; "It's called 'Random Friends' and they're at a party". He said "Singles Mixer" - you should call it "Singles Mixer". I laughed so hard I almost fell over. It was perfect. The way they were all set up on the bar, this odd selection of creatures, the awkward expression I gave the crab, it just worked. I think the mouse and the tiny whale are hitting it off, don't you? The crab is not so sure, but he's keeping one eye on the partridge.
This might completely be one of those moments that only Sean and I will find funny - but if you get even the slightest chuckle from this painting, then it has done it's job. :)
Makes me want to create more pantings with random narratives, that also make me laugh that hard.
